Q and A with Yuliana Morena

What is your name and what grade are you in?

My name is Yuliana Morena and I am a sophomore in Pittsburg High School.

Where were you originally born?

I was originally born in Zacatecas, Mexico. 

How old were you when you moved to the states?

I was twelve years old when I moved to the states.

How long have you been in the states?

I have been here for six years.

What are some things you like about the states?

I like that there are more opportunities here for people.

What are some things you miss about your home country?

I miss seeing family and friends and going out to eat traditional food.

What is one thing you don’t like about the states?

I don’t like that I’m not able to see my mom that often. 

What is a big difference you noticed when you came into the states?

Having to talk in different languages to communicate with people.

What is the hardest part of switching from Spanish to English?

It’s hard to keep track of both languages at the same time and having to switch back and forth 

What is something you miss from your home country?

I miss all the traditional food and going to big family gatherings.

Is Pittsburg the only place you have lived since you moved to the states?

No, I have also lived in Joplin, Missouri as well.

What is one thing you would like to see more in PHS that would help the Latino community?

I think it would help if there was more interviews in spanish to help some lations who don’t know english that well.
