Breanna Clark is the theatre teacher at PHS and the mother of Sophomore Townes Sullivan and Freshman Adeline Sullivan. Both students are involved in theatre, as well.
Townes and Adeline grew up surrounded by theatre; with their mom being a director and their step-dad acting in local shows.
“My step dad grew up doing dance. My mom grew up singing,” Adeline said. “We just grew up around singing and dancing and the arts and I knew that’s what I wanted to do.”
Despite the fact that their mom is the director, they say she works hard to not have favorites.
“I definitely have a more accessible gateway into the world of theater because of my mom,” Townes said. “However, during auditions, my mother has a panel of judges and refuses to suggest us for any role. She tries her hardest to make it balanced, but I still get benefits.”
Due to Clarks impartialness at work, it can be hard to separate work and home, but they claim it’s necessary.
“You just have to separate her being your mom and her being your director,” Adeline said. “Because if you go home and you take that anger with you, it’s gonna ruin everything for weeks.”
Even if there are some difficulties, the way their mom treats them during shows motivates them to try harder.
“There was definitely pressure, but I enjoyed the pressure,” Adeline said.
They both make an effort to not take advantage of their positions.
“I try to prove my ability through my performances,” Townes said.
In the end, theatre is a large part of both of their lives and their mom being their director only inspires them to continue doing what they love.
“I’ve always wanted to do something in the arts, whether it’s Broadway or just acting for shows, or voice acting, anything along that line,” Adeline said. “I know it’s what I want to do.”
