The 67th annual Grammys took place on February 2, 2025. The night that celebrates music and artists alike is bound to come with some controversy and that it did. From two of the biggest artists not winning any awards to iconic performances by some of the biggest artists, this year’s Grammys was one to remember.
Now of course I cannot talk about Grammys without mentioning Taylor Swift. As someone who listens to her music and as someone who truly enjoyed her 11th studio album “The Tortured Poets Department” I really do believe that she was snubbed for some awards this year. Swift was nominated for six grammys and didn’t take home any. Now don’t get me wrong “Cowboy Carter” by Beyonce is a good album and did deserve a lot of the awards it won, but does it really stand up to the influence and depth of “The Tortured Poets Department” or “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie EIlish. In my opinion both of these albums showed superior lyricism, emotion, depth, and storytelling in comparison to “Cowboy Carter.” Furthermore, if you were to compare the seven credited writers of “The Tortured Poets Department” or the two credited writers of “Hit Me Hard and Soft” to the 70 credited writers of “Cowboy Carter,” it is clear that you can see the difference in the amount of people that worked on each album.
Another big part of the Grammys are the performances. This year there were performances by all eight “Best New Artist” nominees as well as Charli XCX, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Billie Eilish, and more. Along with all of these performers was a surprise performance from The Weeknd, whose performance I did enjoy. My favorite performance from the eight “Best New Artist” nominees was Dochii. Dochii’s performance combined both intricate dance moves, captivating choreography, and catchy music, all to create in my opinion a very memorable and exciting performance. In addition I really enjoyed Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ performance of “Die With A Smile,” the same song that won “Best Pop Duo / Group Performance.”
In conclusion, the 67th Annual Grammys were a night full of highs and lows, with memorable performances and undeniable snubs. While the recognition for certain artists was well-deserved, the glaring absence of albums like “The Tortured Poets Department” and “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” leaves room for a lot of conversation. On the other hand, the performances, particularly by newcomers like Dochii and legends like Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, showcased the dynamic range of talent in the music industry today. Overall, it can be clearly seen that this year’s Grammys was one to remember.
