In full swing: golf season hits the green
As the 2019 fall Girl’s golf season approaches, head coach of five years, Mary Packard and her team of golfers have spent their summer preparing for this year’s season.
“We actually did quite a few things in the summer, we had camps and some clinics, which is helpful because we have several new golfers, [which will help] us get going in the right direction early on,” Packard said.
With two returning varsity golfers, juniors Sam Maceli and Hannah Holloman, Packard is looking forward to what this year has to offer.
“We have a couple of really strong golfers, Hannah Holloman and Sam Maceli, that both finished really well last year. And we have a new transfer student, Tabor Workman, and she has a pretty nice game, so I think that’s gonna help. We also have a girl coming up from the middle school who’s played three years,” Packard said. “[I’m not] sure what our top four will look like, but it’s looking pretty hopeful.”
Maceli is returning for her third year and hopes to make this year her best.
“Over the summer I played in a lot of tournaments, basically every week I was up in Kansas City playing. It really helped me learn more about golf and my swing,” Maceli said. “This season I’m looking forward to just doing better and improve on my scores from last year.”
Packard and her team will begin their season against Labette County on Sept. 3.
