I’ve been out of the closet since the summer of 7th going into 8th grade and honestly, it feels great to be out. For a long time, I wasn’t sure if I only liked girls or not, but after I had my first girlfriend I knew without a doubt that I was a lesbian. My coming out experience was awkward because I felt stuck when it came to coming out to my Mom. Although she supports me, it’s really difficult for her because she wants grandbabies and everyone else on that side of my family is religious. When it comes to my Dads side though, they’re really supportive and just want me to be happy at the end of the day. If I could talk to my closeted self I’d tell her to be confident and that coming out is the best thing I ever did. People shouldn’t have to hide themselves because a group of people don’t think it’s okay. If you’re happy, that’s what matters.
