Steier Reaches Eagle Scout Ranking

Story by Emma Mayhew

Senior Gavin Steier has reached the highest level in the Boy Scouts program, reaching the Eagle Scout rank. The Eagle Scout, according to Boy Scouts of America (BSA), is the ‘most advanced rank in scouting’, and it takes 4-6 years to achieve this ranking. “I joined the pack in 1st grade as a Tiger Scout [the first ranking in scouting],” Steier explained. “I’ve been working towards Eagle Scout directly since I bridged over from the pack to the troop when I was in 5th grade.”

Steier is in his final year in the youth BSA program and plans to continue helping the program, whether it be recruiting or helping younger scouts. He believes this program helped provide  in-depth work experience and the ability to work with younger kids. “Even if it’s too late to achieve Eagle Scout, I recommend joining for a fun time, making some friends, and learning some new things.”

Only 5% of BSA troops will ever reach the rank of Eagle Scout, so this honor is very special to those who understand its importance.

“It’s not an easy thing to achieve and I’m glad I pushed through to get it.”
